Welcome to PMA

(Women in Action Platform)

Throughout history, women's civic and political rights have been disregarded by society, resulting in women's limited participation in public and political life. Studies confirm that this reality dates back to ancient times. Empowering women so they know how to defend their rights is one of the arduous and objective tasks of  PMA .

The  PMA (Women in Action Platform),  as a Civil Society Organization concerned with the promotion, defense and protection of  Human Rights,  particularly  Women's Human Rights , focusing, among other aspects, on the issue of their participation in the public and political life of the country, has been developing, within the scope of its strategic plan, a set of actions that seek to address gender issues, fundamentally those related to the balance of power relations between  men  and  women , to promote social, economic and political balance between them in pursuit of sustainable development for  Angola . Thus, the context presents the challenge of identifying strategies for greater participation and inclusion of women in decision-making spaces at the level of concrete needs. Their participation in budget planning, in order to promote the improvement of the quality of life of  Angolan families , and to improve their social and economic conditions.

Mission

Creative Designs

The current socioeconomic , political, cultural, and institutional context of Angola has undergone a process of marked change. Our Executive continues to focus on reconstruction and sustainable development growth in the medium and long term. It also continues to strive towards economic diversification and the improvement of social indicators.

There is still a poor distribution of opportunities and wealth. In terms of justice and human rights, the judicial system is still inaccessible to most of the population and does not inspire confidence in its impartiality and neutrality. Regarding gender, Angola is a party to the major international treaties that promote equality between men and women, namely the Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination against Women (CEDAW) Resolution 1325, and the SADC Protocol on Gender and Development. To improve the condition of women, Law No. 25/11 of July 14th, the Law against Domestic Violence, was approved. However, Angolan society remains patriarchal; the machismo of traditional authorities is a way for men to maintain power and attract people's inclination, which, in many cases, hinders women's advancement to public office. Regarding Angolan civil society , groups and organizations linked to greater civic participation continue to emerge, but they still present many weaknesses in terms of organization, human resource training, and access to financial resources. In general, Angolan civil society is still poorly coordinated among itself and in its dialogue with the Executive branch.

PMA-ACTION

Through hard work and dedication, PMA has accumulated knowledge and experience to solve new problems, both in the operational field and in the lives of women in Angola.

Regarding the health sector, there is still a huge shortage of doctors nationwide, and the few that exist are concentrated in Luanda. Many of them provide services in various private clinics, thus leaving state hospitals as a secondary job. All these challenges demand serious, responsible, and coherent positions from the State and Civil Society, considering citizen participation in defining priorities, particularly the participation and engagement of women, human dignity, and social justice. / For this reason, PMA implements this program with the general objective of contributing significantly to these challenges by strengthening women's leadership capacities, aiming for the effective participation of women as a strategy for greater social inclusion of citizens in the socio-economic development processes of the country, through the influence of public policies from a gender balance perspective , within the framework of gender affirmative action.
